Curling for Community
Community Development
Curling teaches as much about life as it does about sport. Respect, teamwork, togetherness, strength, camaraderie and acceptance, are key parts of the game. Curling builds community connections, helps the physical body and creates a less-stressed mind. OC Curling programs add a fun, unique outing with family and friends.
Local Economic Impact
Local, National and International curling competitions will bring recreational, competitive and Olympic athletes to the area. Through corporate events, local businesses will use our facility for team building activities for their employees and clients.
Diversity and Inclusion
Curling is a place for EVERYONE. We fill a gap in the community by providing an accessible sport for all, regardless of age, gender, identity or ability. A dedicated curling facility will allow us to provide Junior leagues and programs for local youth and senior communities. Curling is a game that can be played by the entire family, together.
Grassroots Growth
Growth of curling in the USA is at an all-time high. This growth depends on the ability for clubs to grow into their own Dedicated Ice facilities. With our own venue, we will grow our membership base far beyond our current capacity while providing dedicated ice access for other clubs in the western region of the US.

About OC Curling
The Orange County Curling Club (OC Curling) was founded in 2010 to introduce the sport of curling to the local community. Since its inception OC Curling has been steadily growing, reaching the point where there are more members than available ice time for curling.
OC Curling currently has over 100 members and meets twice a week in Lakewood, CA on shared ice with hockey and other ice sports. We have reached member capacity in our current venue and will welcome many new members once we have our own dedicated facility.
Why Dedicated Ice
While we support a thriving and active curling community, OC Curling has many constraints with the current shared-use facility where we play. These constraints significantly impact our ability to grow our membership. Each of the challenges below will be addressed with our own dedicated ice facility.

Limited Access
Because we play in a shared-use facility and compete with hockey and skating for ice time, we are currently limited to playing two nights per week at unfavorable times. Despite this, our membership is currently at maximum capacity. Having limited game times also limits our ability to accommodate additional leagues dedicated to special interest groups such as: seniors, juniors, high-school, LGBTQ+, and competitive curlers. Having limited access also limits OC Curling's ability to generate revenue.

Quality of Ice Surface
Arena ice made primarily for hockey and skating is typically an uneven playing surface that presents many problems to curlers. Some games are virtually unplayable depending on the ice conditions.

Stability
OC Curling has moved between 3 different arenas in 3 different cities over the past two years, at the request of our arena owners.

Competitive Development
On ice shared with hockey and skating, it is difficult for competitive teams to hone their skills and perform well at the elite level.

Access for Surrounding Clubs
While there are 3 arena curling venues in Southern California (OC Curling, Hollywood Curling Club, Curl San Diego), none of these clubs have access to dedicated ice.
